It is a beautiful lagoon indeed. Sadly, it has become so contaminated by the toxic runoff waters from the surrounding farmland who use pesticides that the marine life in the mar menor has taken a terrible blow. The govt. is trying to step in and prevent further damage

The sea is still lumpy after yesterday's high winds so I haven't gone very far. It's a great anchorage here in Torrevieja, in the heart of the town and very sheltered. The sea off Torrevieja is full baby Portuguese men of war jellyfish, for miles and miles.
