Saturday 20th of September 2025. Machico - on the harbour wall.
Much better than the anchorage just outside which is subject a swell and worse to come tomorrow. €6 a night and I get to have a shower. They're at it again. I polished off this lot when it arrived with first pint and now another couple of saucers have arrived before I've started on number three. I won't be able to manage all of my Ayam Bakar Taliwang tonight, I'm sure it will keep until tomorrow. Monday 22nd of September 2025. Mightily relieved to have received confirmation of a booking for a marina in Tenerife for the 6th of October. From about now until January is the time of year that boats gather in the Canary Isles ready to cross the Atlantic after the hurricane season is over and all the marinas are supposedly fully booked. I hope I'm as lucky with my bookings for my flights from Gran Canaria in November and December.
Brilliant photograph! The positioning of the rock, the moon, and the cloud could not have been better.
ReplyDeleteHow is the weather looking? It gets a bit hot down there.
The phone makes it look better than in real life but I didn't use any of the options to enhance it. Take the boats away and it could have been a painting. Gibraltar is a good deal cooler than the nearby Mediterranean and Atlantic coast and I think it is because it is surrounded by water on three sides. Perfect conditions in summer and winter.
DeleteI love that photo. Everything looks so peaceful and relaxing. But La Linea is a hotbed of crime, mostly narcotics and drug gangs. Terrible crime there mostly because the local population are poor and uneducated and sadly they get caught up in the criminal world. They get involved and cover up for the shady dealings.
ReplyDeleteI don't think tourists have anything to worry about, I've seen nothing. It's probably all about locals vs Police. The roughest looking characters I've seen here are the local Brits in the bars.
DeleteYou are right about tourists being pretty safe: Pat and I were there a couple of times and it was fine. Yes, the trouble is more with locals and police and, unfortunately, there is corruption in the police force. They get too much temptation from drug smugglers to provide information or cover- ups.
DeleteSo good it looks artificial!
ReplyDeletethat is a great photo Brendan
