Saturday 20th of September 2025. Machico - on the harbour wall.

Much better than the anchorage just outside which is subject a swell and worse to come tomorrow. €6 a night and I get to have a shower.
They're at it again. I polished off this lot when it arrived with first pint and now another couple of saucers have arrived before I've started on number three. I won't be able to manage all of my Ayam Bakar Taliwang tonight, I'm sure it will keep until tomorrow.

Monday 22nd of September 2025.
Mightily relieved to have received confirmation of a booking for a marina in Tenerife for the 6th of October.  From about now until January is the time of year that boats gather in the Canary Isles ready to cross the Atlantic after the hurricane season is over and all the marinas are supposedly fully booked. I hope I'm as lucky with my bookings for my flights from Gran Canaria in November and December.

  1. 'Ayam Bakar Taliwang' ?? Is that you cooking, or a takeaway?

  2. I couldn´t figure out what you were talking about ie. "they´re at it again." Saucers arriving ... etc. I thought you were talking about flying saucers until I realized you are in a bar? having pints and getting some complimentary tapas? Phew. I thought you were losing it, Brendan. Glad to hear you are happy with the new mooring, and yes, it´s a good price!

  3. Hi Brendan, your photo of the snacks on the table makes everything clear. Sorry I was doubting you! (I think I am the one who´s losing it!)
Good to hear about the berth in a Tenerife marina. How much will that set you back? It´s probably high season there at the start of the winter.

    1. Yes, I was surprised to learn that it's a bit like Australia down here, winter is the high season and prices go up. However, I've been very lucky to get a rate of €12 per night.

    2. I recognise the pretzels and nuts (peanuts ?) but what’s in the dish on the right? Looks like giant butter beans. You must have been able to get back to the boat under your own jet propulsion!

    3. They are Lupine beans or Tremoco but go under other names depending on the country you are in. They are legumes so you're probably right.
