I remember this place, Brendan. It´s the only ugly blot on what is a beautiful, unspoiled coastline, much of which is a national reserve area. (Btw, the name Carbonera has the root word "carbon" = coal, so it must have been a coal mine in its past?)
This whole area has been mined since ancient times for all sorts including gold I think. And there was me thinking that it had something to do with pasta.
I'll be here or hereabouts for the next 3 months. Not for the first time the Vesuvians have gatecrashed my party. For a moment there I thought it was my imagination, but then this!
The sea is still lumpy after yesterday's high winds so I haven't gone very far. It's a great anchorage here in Torrevieja, in the heart of the town and very sheltered. The sea off Torrevieja is full baby Portuguese men of war jellyfish, for miles and miles. Edit: they're not baby Portuguese men o war, they're: https://www.majorcadailybulletin.com/holiday/beaches/2025/04/04/132335/mallorca-beach-little-sails-like-jellyfish-invade-puerto-pollensa-covering-beaches-around-mallorca.html#goog_rewarded
